The second edition of the Radio and Television Personality (RTP) Awards, aimed at awarding personalities who have over the years contributed immensely towards the development of the industry in Ghana, has been formally launched in Accra, today.
The event, which will be held on the theme: “Media for Peace for Election 2012”. is being organized by Big Events Ghana.
The RTP Awards which was birthed last June saw a lot of outstanding radio and television personalities being honoured for their contributions towards creating a vibrant media culture in Ghana. It was held at the Banquet Hall, State House.
At a press briefing, the Chief Executive Officer of Big Events, Mr. Prince Mckay disclosed that this year’s RTP Awards will be a ‘Festival’ which will be celebrated on two days and it will commence with a Media Forum. He said Big Events decided to seek a broader stakeholder support and has therefore introduced ‘Industry Awards’. This ‘Industry Awards’ will be given to best presenters in every region in Ghana.
“The media forum will be followed by a Celebrity funfair. This would be a lounging programme in the evening of the first day where in the midst of a cocktail party, the MCs and Award presenters would be introduced to the public. The highlight of the Celebrity funfair will be what we have termed the Industry Award which will be given to the Best radio personality in each of the ten regions in Ghana; for instance Greater Accra best radio presenter of the year or Ashanti Region best radio presenter of the year and so on. We have labeled this category as the Industry Award because all the nominations and voting will be done solely by individuals working in radio….this will be followed by the Awards presentation….” he said.
According to him, the 2012 RTP Awards will be held at the Conference Centre on the 20th and 23rd of June. He revealed that Ghanaians in the Diaspora will this time have the opportunity to vote by logging on to www.Rtpawards.com. He however added a caveat that “Ghanaians who are not resident outside the country cannot log on to vote because it has been configured for only those living outside the country”.
Another introduction in the RTP Awards for this year, he said, is the ‘Voice of Africa’ which is to pay tribute to outstanding African media practitioners on the global platform to serve as inspiration for Ghanaian presenters to emulate as well as a new category to reward the Best Programme on Television and Radio.
According to Mr. Mckay, all award winners this year will be given a brand new Haier Thermocool Home Theatre as well as other amazing prizes to be unveiled on the night.
