Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan received a rousing hero’s welcome reception on his return to his United Arab Emirate side Al Ain on Monday morning.

The 26-year-old was flown to his Dubai-based from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on a self-financed private airplane and landed at the Al Ain International Aiport at 2:20 am local time.

Hundreds of Al Ain fans organized a cars procession after his car from Al Ain airport to his house in Al Shuaibah Area.

After he got home he again went out, expressing his gratitude and appreciation for his fans and the unforgettable welcoming he received.

“His return on a private airplane is exceptional and coming from his sense of responsibility towards his team,” Al Ain first team supervisor HE Mohamed Obeid Hammad said.

“It is good to see a player in your team has ideal traits like willingness of defending the name of his team and the fight spirit.

“We are proud of having a player like him in our team.

“He actually proved to everyone that he is an example of good professional footballer.”

Gyan did not return with his international teammates to Ghana on Sunday after disappointing local fans despite finishing fourth at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations.

He was severely criticized by fans of the Black Stars for causing the team’s semi-final defeat after missing a first half penalty against Zambia.

Some exasperated fans went as far as issuing death threats to Ghana’s leading topscorer.
