All winners were announced at the event except for the two who won the two Kia Rio cars the controversial Founder’s Merit Award. Two SUV cars won by actor, Agya Koo and four actresses (Jackie, Roselyn, Yvonne and Juliet) respectively, were the main high lights of the maiden edition in 2010.
Unlike in 2010, when organizers readily announced the winners, they have been silent over the matter, even though the two cars were openly displayed during the awards.
Two years ago, two Zoyte SUV cars sponsored by Feiya Engineering Limited were given to winners of the same category. Prior to last year’s event, organizers released a publication that the new sponsor of the two cars was Rana Motors, who donated two Kia Rio cars.
2012 is already here and stakeholders in the movie industry, media men, and winners on the night are still wondering who will win the coveted “Founders’ Merit Award”, and why it is taking the organizers so long to come out with the two winners.
Peacefmonline.com spoke to Fred Nuamah, Founder of Ghana Movie Awards who is also the sole decider of who wins the Founders’ Merit Awards, for some answers. “I will announce it very soon so people should be patient”.
When he was pushed further to be more specific about when exactly he was going to do the announcement, Fred said he would announce the two winners in two weeks, at a press conference at the Golden Tulip Hotel where the cars would be officially presented, adding that the date for the press conference would be announced later.
Fred said, as a Founder and Executive Producer of Ghana Movie Awards, whoever would win this award would be selected based on his own discretion because he created this particular category to reward hard working actors and actresses.
He said the Founders’ Merit Award is non-competitive but based purely on their contribution on the movie scene and the person’s general behavior within the year. He added, however, that the two winners (one male and one female) would be chosen from actors and actresses who won awards on the night.
