I can’t act nude because of our society - Oge Okoye

Oge Okoye
Nollywood actress Oge Okoye has lamented that but for societal norms and perceptions she wouldn't have had any difficulty acting nude in a movie.

Several movie personalities, especially actresses, have received back lashes from the general public for sexually inclined roles they’ve played in movies with some saying those roles are not of our culture.

The actress who boasts of a decade in acting told Nigerian journalist Adeola Adeyemo in an interview that any attempt to play nude will paint a very negative picture of her.

“Honestly I can’t because of our society, where we come from. The way we see it, I will just be seen as the worst person on earth. I wouldn’t do that because our culture doesn’t allow it. But I could do other sensual roles but for nude, I wouldn’t,” she stressed.

Asked how her husband of seven years feels about her romantic roles in movies, the bubbly actress said the husband encourages her with her roles but has not complained about those roles.

According to Oge, her husband “is not complaining. I really don’t know if he feels bad, but I know that being a human being like I am, he might be feeling bad inside but he is not showing it. He encourages me a lot; he is always there for me. It’s not much of a problem though he doesn’t watch my movies, unless maybe you see him hiding somewhere watching it.”

With stiff competitions in an ever growing Nollywood movie industry, there were rumours of spats between Oge Okoye and some actresses; notable among them were Ini Edo and Chioma Toplis.

When she was asked that question, she answered, “Concerning Chioma Toplis and I, I wouldn’t want to say anything about that because it’s not necessary, so no comment. It’s a New Year, we shouldn’t be revisiting stuff that happened in the past. Let’s just forge ahead and talk about new things.”

Oge however added, “Ini is still my friend, I still work with her. We still have that working relationship and we are not quarreling. What do they mean that we fought on set because it never happened.”
