Majid Michel Wins Best Actor In Africa

Ghanaian bad boy actor Majid Michel has been crowd the best screen king in the whole of Africa.

The “Heart of Men” actor won the “Best Actor In Leading Role” at the just ended prestigious African Movie Academy Awards 2012 with his ground breaking performance in Ghanaian movie “Somewhere in Africa”.

The glamorous event which took place at the Expo Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos on Sunday April 22 2012, for the first time, several years after it was organized in Bayelsa State.

Majid was nominated alongside great actors in Africa including; Menzi Ngubane from South Africa with the movie “ How To Steal 2 Million”, Nigerian actor Chet Anekwe with “Unwanted Guest”, Jafta Mamabolo for her role in “Otelo Burning”, Karabo Lance with the movie “48”, Nigerian star actor Wale in “Phone Swap” and international actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim in “Man On Ground”.

Majid has been nominated on several occasions in the same category but he has not been able to carry the award home until last Sunday.

The awards night was hosted by Haitian born “Heroes” & “Sinking Sand” star Jimmy Jean-Louis and the night saw great performances from Nigerian sensational singer Asa, award winning 2Face Idibia and Senegal’s Viviane Ndour who spiced up the evening.

Ghanaian Film maker and Director Leila Djansi also won the award for “Achievement in Screenplay” with the movie “Ties That Bind” which stars Hollywood star, Kimberly Ellis, Nollywood actress Omotola and immediate past “Best Actress in Africa” Ama K. Abebrese.

Ghana won only two awards out of 17 nominations. Some of the Ghanaian stars and movie stakeholders present on the night included Actress Lydia Forson, Yvonne Okoro, Ama K. Abebrese, actor Mijid Michel among others.

The night also attracted a lot of celebrities from Africa and beyond. The crème de la crème of African movie stars from Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenye, Tanzania among other.
