Actress Angela Tabiri Faints Over Leaked Nude Photos

Earlier this week, we reported the nude photos of Actress Angela Tabiri. Information reaching Us indicates that Angela fainted on Monday out of shock upon witnessing her naked photos online. News-One tried to get in touch with the actress after she had been ressucitated but she declined the interview apparently out of embarrassment. She issued a statement explaining and apologizing for the incident which can be read below:

It was my boyfriend who took those pictures. And we were actually playing with them as lovers. He even said jokingly that we should delete them before a mistake happens and they reach the media and lo and behold, here we are in this embarrassment.
I actually thought he deleted them until recently when he told me that the memory card was missing. My prayer all along was that it doesn’t get into other hands. But obviously that didn’t happen. I am sorry and I have learnt my lessons from it – Angela Tabriri (Almost in tears)

I dont even know if the boyfriends claim of missing the memory card is true. But ladies when you do take naked photos for your boyfriend be very very careful. Word to the wise!!!

Chemphe Dedicates "Trinity" Song To Nigerians

Chemphe is Ghana’s best R n B pan African artiste with numerous awards on different platforms. He launched his inspirational album in Norway in 2011 and came back into the country with a big hit number one which features his label mate Dr Cryme.

The video is currently having a good airplay with Channel 0 and is poised to be one of the biggest classy songs to have emerged from the country.

Chemphe has been very instrumental with social issues right from the beginning of his career, preaching against violence against women, unity and more. He is YMCAs Ambassador for poverty Eradication and is embarking on various social projects around the world.

Controversy as Bukom Banku lays claims to Azonto

The debate over who is the originator of the popular “Azonto” dance is far from over as boxer cum comedian, Braimah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku is claiming ownership of the dance.

The origins of Azonto, which has become the hottest dance in Ghana today and has even gone international, have been hotly contested.

While one school of thought believes that it is a neo-traditional dance of the Ga people in the Greater Accra Region such as “Apaa” or “Gombe”, others say it emanated from the creativity of some Ghanaian dancers which was taken onto the world stage by Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan, who dances Azonto whenever he scores a goal.

But Bukom Banku has challenged those stories claiming that he originated the dance and last Saturday put up quite a show at the T-Havana Park at Tema Community Nine to prove that he is the king of Azonto.

While speaking on Adom FM’s entertainment programme, Adom Billboard, two weeks before, Bukom Banku contested the name Azonto being used for the dance saying its original name is “Tso Ye Osee” which in the Ga dialect literally means “there is a tree behind you so watch your back” and that was when he issued the challenge that he was ready to battle whoever believed could dance better than him.

True to his words he displayed a high sense of creativity, artistry and flair as he danced his version of Azonto to the admiration of the patrons who had gathered at the park.

His dance was characterized by movements such as washing, driving, ironing as well as boxing.

Patrons of the show shouted and applauded with joy as they watched the talented boxer do his own thing with some of them. Young and old, male and female, who believed in their dancing skills gave him stiff opposition as they also exhibited marvelous moves.

Speaking with Adom Entertainment News later, Bukom Banku said that he was impressed with the talents he saw in Tema.

“There are great crop of dancers in Tema but their style of Azonto is more of a formation dance and not the original Azonto,” he said.

I did not have sex with Becca and Eazzy – Rodney Quarcoo

A photograph of sexy songstress Rebecca Acheampong also known as Becca and renowned photographer Rodney Quarcoo have surfaced on the internet.

But the subjects in it say there is nothing to the sexually suggestive photograph.

Some faceless individuals distributed the image on the internet, claiming it was released by Quarcoo who sought to use it to blackmail Becca and make some cash. They said Quarcoo had threatened to release a video of a sexual encounter with Becca and another songstress, Eazzy, if they fail to pay an amount of GHS20,000.

But Rodney Quarcoo, the man at the centre of the controversy has dismissed the reports as laughable, saying it is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image and that of the songstress.

Narrating his side of the story, Rodney Quarcoo said there was nothing lascivious about the photograph.

“It’s not something that is being hidden, is not like this person found it somewhere. ..I wasn’t hiding it. It’s on my blog … that’s where they found it and decided that they will write all those [stuffs] that they wrote. I saw it; I thought ok fine I mean this is what someday has time to say about me...I am flattered that somebody has the time and energy to write all sought of nonsense. If it was true, obviously I won’t be walking around here laughing about it … just the fact that it’s not true,” he said.

While denying the existence of a sex tape, Rodney said “I had a photo shoot with Becca at the studio with her manager and her assistant on Tuesday. Threatening to release a sex tape of Becca and I and Eazzy and then I am asking for GHS20,000. If I want money, it’s not GHS20,000, [that can't solve] my problems. We were all fully clothed; there were people in the room. I know it’s not true, she [Becca] knows it’s not true.”

Eazzy has denied it adding she has only heard the name of Rodney Quarcoo but has never met him.

“I don’t know him, I haven’t met him before but I heard his name. I think he is a photographer...but I haven’t met him in person … I don’t know what he looks like so I guess this answers the whole calling and the whole intimacy … if I don’t know what he looks like then I obviously haven’t met him before to even have an intimacy with him or have a tape like that with him,” she denied.

“I don’t know where this is coming from seriously it is really funny,” the bubbly songstress said stressing, “Nobody has called me to demand for any amount of money not even one pesewa. My management team, they are so not even aware of what is going on.”

All attempts to reach Becca and her manager for their side of the story proved futile.

Petroleum prices to go up by 30%

Petroleum prices are expected to go up by an average of 30 per cent in the coming weeks.

This follows a court ruling by an Accra High Court on Tuesday after the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) had applied for stay of execution to enable it appeal an initial judgment. The plaintiffs, Mr Kwaku Kwarteng and Mr Abdul Ganiyu filed a counter affidavit praying the court to compel the regulatory body to obey the November ruling.

It will be recalled that on 28th November 2011, the court ordered the NPA to stop charging consumers with the ex-refinery differential and also directed that the accrued surplus since June 2009, which the plaintiffs estimated to be in the region of GHc 661 million, should be deposited into the Consolidated Fund on behalf of Ghanaians.

The ruling is highly expected to affect fuel prices.

Petroleum prices were increased between 15 and 30 per cent about a month ago, much to the objection of several civil society organisations and labour unions including the Trades Union Congress.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Alex Mould, said his outfit does not have a choice but to comply with the court’s directive.

After one year of making hiphop music together, Desmond Amoah aka Dee Moneey have parted ways with D-Black. Ghana Music.com is yet to find out what Dee Moneey is attributing his exit to.

According to our source, Dee Moneey quit Black Avenue Musik because of bad business deals within themselves but D-Black said the split was completely amicable.

The drama began last year, a few voices raised concern about why Dee Moneey was not included in D-Black's final 'Yes Boss Tour' at the International Conference Center on the 30th December, 2011. Twitter has also been flooded with Dee Moneey departure.

Dr Cryme Wins Most Bankable Young Artiste

E-Jam Records’ corporate artiste Dr. Cryme won the most bankable young artiste for the year 2011 under review by the GH Review news paper.

2011 was very good for the young artiste as he made Ghana proud by winning the Golden Heart Award in UK and most influential artiste
during same at the High School Honours.

He has been very quiet since last year December to date due to ailment which made his management call off various performances and endorsements.

Dr. Cryme is currently Samsung’s brand Ambassador sharing same platform with the likes of Beyonce, Michael Essien, Banky W, Sasha, Didier Drogba among others.

He has also been appointed the official Manager of the new E-Jam Records sister company “Twipop Records” due to his high networth and good plan implementation. He is the Tema artiste with the highest network currently and is poised to be Ghana’s key and most respected brand in the near future with consistency.

His manager and CEO of E-Jam Records, Korsah-Brown emphasized that celebrities should not confuse branding with SWAG but should leverage on good corporate associations to boost their branding. He added that though Dr Cryme just released his first album, his branding has
made him more popular than the pace of his music.

He also debunked rumours that Dr Cryme’s Europe tour has been cancelled and added that the Management team is considering countries
to be toured within two weeks to avoid the artiste being out of the system for a long time.

Mr. Korsah-Brown confirmed that Dr Cryme’s album is available on itunes, Silverbird shops, Big Ben music shops and various music outlets around the world.

The Record label plans to shoot his “more fans” video in February this year. The Video will involve Dr Cryme’s fans all over the world, and details will be released soon.

Ghana Music Awards exciting changes

Three new categories have been added to this year’s Ghana movie awards ceremony dubbed Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). This is part of a restructuring process to present a controversial free award ceremony in 2012.

The categories include Gospel Album of the Year, Group of the Year and Sound Engineer Of the Year, which was defined as engineer adjudged by peers and the VGMA Board (Planning Committee) to be the sound engineer directly responsible for the recording, mastering and technical treatment of a nominated song during the year under review.

The Gospel Album of the Year category was defined as an album adjudged by the award’s Academy (Selection Committee) and Board as the most outstanding compilation of hit Gospel songs that was released during the year under review. It must have generated the most excitement during the year.

The Group of the Year was explained as artistes adjudged by the Academy, Board and the general public as the group with the highest audience appeal and popularity. They must comprise of at least two (2) or more members and must have released a hit single/album during the year under review.

The announcement was made known at a press conference organised by Charterhouse on Thursday at GH ONE premises, to inform the media about some changes in this year’s event. The ceremony was also used to unveil the award’s Technical Review team which consists of Amandzeba, George Gyimah (Phamous Philms), Nacy (No Tribe), Kwame Faakye, Kiki Banson, Bessa Simons, Richie Mensah (Lynx), Diana Hopeson, Abraham Ohene Gyan, Fred Kyei Mensah, David Kyei (Kaywa) and Joseph Addison (Killbeat).

The rest were Sammy Forson, Okyeame Kwame, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, Paul Nuamah Donkor (Jay So), Appiah Dankwa (Appiatus) and DJ Andy Dosty.
Currently, the number of award categories has shot up from 26 to 29 categories. The categories for the VGMA were also reviewed to include 15 Public Voting categories, 12 Industry Voting Categories and 3 Honorary Categories.
  Generally, there had been some significant changes. The term ‘commercial release’ was redefined to take cognizance of new digital channels of music distribution, for example Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and RBT/CRBT.

As a result, the word ‘commercial’ was dropped because some of the channels are non-commercial e.g. Twitter, Youtube etc.
The VGMA Calendar year has also changed from November to December 1 2010 to December 31, 2011. Hence, to be eligible for the VGMA 2012, an artiste’s work should have been released from December 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011.

Meanwhile, the VGMA will maintain the 3-tier voting system of the public, the VGMA Academy and the VGMA Board. With Public Voting Awards, the public has 40% votes, VGMA Academy (Selection Committee) – 30%, and the VGMA Board (Planning Committee) – 30%.

Industry Voting Awards comes with 50% for VGMA Academy and another 50% for VGMA Board. Honorary Awards: VGMA Board – 100%. Sound Engineer, Music Video, Music Producer: VGMA Board and Peer voting and finally Most Popular Song will be decided by Public – 100%.

Other new changes in the voting system include the addition of new channels including online voting via www.ghanamusicawards.com and voting on mobile phone via short code.

Charterhouse, organizers of the award ceremony, announced that it has opened up entries for nominations and nomination forms have been circulated nationwide since January 1 and will last through to January 21. The award ceremony will be held in April after a huge nominations party very soon.

Ghana Music Industry Loses GH¢5 Million A Year

Reports reaching 'Beatwaves' indicate that the Ghanaian music industry loses over GH¢5million a year to pirates who illegally copyright the works of artistes and sell it cheaper on the global market.

Beatwaves gathered that out of a 100 songs played on radio, 80 are pirated without the consent of the artistes who spent thousands of cedis on production.

It is also on record that a market size of about 50 million or so copies of cassettes and CDs sold annually has reduced to less than 30 million copies due to the illegal use of musical works.

Music piracy is the copying and distribution of copies of a piece of music of which the composer, recording artiste, or copyright-holding record company did not give consent. It is also a form of copyright infringement, which is a crime in many countries.

Two decades ago, the Ghanaian music industry did not experience the activities of pirates. But today, the whole country has been plagued by piracy, making it difficult for artistes to sell their genuine musical products.

A copyright advocate, Carlos Sakyi, disclosed that piracy had killed the creative industry in Ghana, adding that a large number of music icons were now unemployed due to the increasing rate of piracy in the country’s music industry.

He estimated that the country’s music industry lost over GH¢ 5 million yearly to pirates who illegally pirated various works of Ghanaian musicians.

He disclosed that measures were being put in place by the stakeholders in the industry to prevent various forms of copyright which included illegal download of music, mobile ring tones, CD piracy, among others.

Reports available also indicated that since 2009, illegal the activities of pirates in Accra and Kumasi had increased by more than 25 percent.

The report further revealed that over 65 percent of creative works on the Ghanaian market were suffering as a result of activities of pirates.

In Ghana today, music pirates have completely taken over the music industry through the establishment of a mafia clique in some secret location in some parts of the country, operating freely.

The pirates have survived and are still surviving because they have good links with some of the players in the industry, who have given them some form of protection to operate freely.

John Mensah Sarpong, the president of the National Society of Ghana Music Producers (NASGAMP), who spoke to BEATWAVES, disclosed that his association was working tirelessly to protect and promote the image of Ghanaian music to attract more investment into the music sector.

“Considering the long list of victims of piracy, most of the artistes have decided to be watchdogs over their productions, spending huge sums of money on their monitoring teams to check the activities of pirates,” he declared.

According to him, in Ghana, the environment was very conducive for piracy as a large number of music lovers were willing to buy the pirated works not because they were cheaper but due to the fact that the majority of them had poor purchasing power.

He was of the view that the problem of piracy started gaining grounds in Ghana a decade ago and it capitalized on the vacuum created by the continued absence of the pre-requisite structures and an efficient network to smoke out the mafia that had become almost invisible, operating underground.
